British Web hosting services provider UK2 announced on Monday an acquisition of a new data center in London. The firm bought the facility to ensure adequate capacity for its traditional services, as well as for expansion of its cloud offering, called VPS.NET, according to a UK2 statement.

The new data center - located close to London's Canary Wharf - has in the past been occupied by large firms such as AT&T, NTL and Virgin Media. A variety of dark fiber and power providers are connected to the facility that will now be operated by UK2 staff.

UK2 has been operating for more than 10 years. It launched VPS.NET - the cloud offering - about three months ago and more than 6,000 virtual servers have been deployed in that timeframe, according to the statement. The cloud service is priced on a sliding scale (£9- £15 per month), depending on the amount of nodes deployed at a time.
