Stream Data Centers will open a new 130,000 square foot (12,000 sq m) data center in Elk Grove Village, near Chicago, Illinois.

The 15MW site, which will open in late 2018, will have 70,000 square feet (6,500 sq m) of raised floor, on nearly 6 acres. The land is already home to a newly constructed shell which Stream will structurally enhance to data center standards.

“Elk Grove Village has become a prime destination for data center operators, cloud service providers, and enterprise users, offering robust fiber optic connectivity, reliable power infrastructure and immediate proximity to the entire Chicago metro area,” Stream’s co-managing partner, Robert Kennedy, said.

Elk Grove Village is also home to facilities from T5 Data Centers, EdgeConneX, Equinix and DuPont Fabros.

Kennedy added: “Our new development in Elk Grove Village seeks to address the needs of cloud providers and enterprise companies with significant requirements in and around the Chicago area. We believe that our value proposition will serve cloud, financial, healthcare and other enterprise companies looking for low-latency data center connectivity with this highly-secure and resilient option, located in the heart of the Chicago market.”

The data center will be the company’s first in Illinois, joining its existing facilities in Texas and Minnesota. Stream has also built data centers in Colorado and California, but has sold or leased the sites to companies like Equinix and Zayo.
