ROOT Data Center is now accepting cryptocurrency Bitcoin as a payment method in Canada and claims it is the first colocation facility to offer this form of payment in the country.

ROOT’s Tier III, carrier-neutral Montreal facility will use the payment policy – that took effect August 31 - ROOT Data Center customers can now make their payments via the online currency.

According to ROOT its position as a ‘world class’ colocation provider has been attracting lots of attention from Bitcoin miners.

ROOT said the facility’s ability to affordably cool over 30kW/rack has made it possible for high density Bitcoin clients to reduce their operating costs by over 30% to 50%.

ROOT Data Center CEO Jason van Gaal said: “Accepting Bitcoin is definitely a way that we can demonstrate our support to Bitcoin clients from Montreal and around the world. We feel strongly that Bitcoin will play an important role in how we conduct local and international trade today, but also in the foreseeable future”.
