The menu available to government departments will include IaaS, PaaS and ‘specialist cloud services’

NTT Europe, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTT Com, has been approved as a supplier of cloud services to the British government.

The company will participate in the seventh iteration of G-Cloud, the government’s digital procurement network launched in 2012. Services offered to the public sector organizations will include Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), cloud consultancy and project management.

“NTT Europe’s specialists offer cloud services that range from scoping an organization’s cloud readiness to service design and delivery. Our cloud solutions are positioned in Gartner Magic Quadrants and we back these with our secure data centers and a Tier-1 Global IP network. This means we are strongly placed to serve the public sector’s cloud needs in the UK,” commented Bob Welton, regional director for Northern Europe at NTT Europe.

Government cloud UK

Government work

NTT Europe is a subsidiary of NTT Com, which is owned by Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, the largest telecommunications company in the world in terms of revenue. It was established by the Japanese government in 1952, and around a third of its shares are still owned by the state.

NTT Europe provides public, private and hybrid cloud solutions and operates several data centers in the UK, located in Slough and Hemel Hempstead. The facilities are connected to the National Health Service N3 network to enable secure data storage and transmission in the state-run healthcare sector. They are also fully compliant with the requirement of the Public Services Network (PSN), and certified to ISO27001 and PCI DSS 3.0.

Following the approval process for G-Cloud, NTT Europe will offer managed hosting services for customers with confidential, mission-critical applications, content delivery network services and compute cloud services.

It will also offer something it calls ‘specialist cloud services’ – a category which includes consultancy and project management. NTT Europe says its teams in the UK can quickly develop Proof of Concepts and customize solutions to suit the needs of  individual organizations.

And finally, NTT Europe will offer a cloud-based disaster recovery service that can be trialed by qualified organizations for free.
