OpenStack cloud provider Mirantis has launched a new version of its service which allows partners to write their own plugins and manage their own products automatically.
Mirantis OpenStack 6.0, based on the Juno release of OpenStack Juno, lets users create plugins that install and run their products automatically. It uses the open source Fuel deployment manager, which Mirantix created and released as a community project. The alternative to Fuel, Mirantis says, would be manually installing additional software and drivers.

“As the pure-play OpenStack vendor, Mirantis is committed to keeping hardware and software choices completely open and to removing technical barriers to adoption,” said Boris Renski, Mirantis CMO.
Mirantis OpenStack 6.0 also features improved high availability features, and has been tested at scales up to 100 nodes. It also supports VMware, including a reference architecture for VMware vCenter Server and VMware NSX.
As a pure-play OpenStack service provider Mirantis has criticised players that offer the open source cloud platform half-heartedly or with a lot of proprietary add-ons.
Previously backed by Red Hat, Mirantis ofers its own OpenStack implementation, with a pay-as-you-go cloud service and a partnership with Ubuntu provider Canonical.
