Hosting firm LeaseWeb is expanding its reach into Asia Pacific with a data center operation at telco Pacnet’s flagship Singapore CloudSpace II facility (SGCS2).

As part of a new subsidiary - LeaseWeb Asia Pacific - the data center is connected to a worldwide IP backbone comprised of 52 Points of Presence (PoPs), 33 internet exchanges (IXs) and 4.0 Terabits per second of capacity.

CloudSpace II has Tier III Design Certification from the Uptime Institute and has fully redundant power and cooling systems, advanced fire detection and suppression systems and boasts a ‘latest-generation’ security access system.

The agreement with Pacnet paves the way for future LeaseWeb Asia Pacific expansion into other locations, according to a statement from the company, with Hong Kong, Sydney and Tokyo named target destinations in the region.

LeaseWeb’s new cloud infrastructure offering for the Asia Pacific region will initially comprise of on-demand bare metal servers, which will be available at launch.

It plans to expand its portfolio, at a later unspecified data, with a virtual cloud offering.

The rationale for the data center is to offer customers the chance to deploy and ramp up their own private clouds at will, said Bas Winkel, LeaseWeb Asia Pacific’s MD.

“Our growth plan calls for the rapid deployment of data centers throughout the region so European and US can easily enter Asia Pacific markets,” Winkel said.

“Pacnet’s focus on data center efficiency and operational sustainability matches our own.”

LeaseWeb has 60,000 physical servers under management, providing Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) hosting to more than 17,500 customers worldwide. Services include public and private cloud, bare metal servers, content delivery networks, colocation, managed hosting and hybrid systems.

LeaseWeb operates seven data centers in Europe, Asia Pacific and the US.
