Japan-based Asia Pacific data center provider KVH is aggressively targeting the local Infrastructure-as-a-Service market with the opening of two new data centers and the expansion of its cloud services through a partnership with Colt Technology Services for the rollout of cloud in ten sites in Asia and Europe.

The new self-managed data centers have both been built to a Tier III standard to meet growing demand from the financial markets for outsourced data center services.

The Hong Kong Data Center 1 (KHDC1) has been built close to the Hong Kong Exchange to offer proximity colocation and low-latency connections for high-speed trading.

It has been built to a 2 (N+1) configuration and offers 13,000 sq m off rack space and is fed by a dual 28MVA power feed from a facility substation.

The KVH Singapore Data Center (SGDC1) has been purpose built close to the Singapore financial district in Jurong East and is already ISMS and ISO compliant for security and reliability.

It has been built to with an N+1 configuration and has server rooms spread over six floors, offering 4,810 sq m of space for racks.

Both data centers provide 1MW of power for colocation, managed IT and cloud services, with connections to KVH’s  pan-Asian low latency network which covers 11 financial centers.

KVH COO Kenji Hioki said KVH is actively expanding its operations with significant investments in the Asia Pacific region.

“We plan to invest over US$100m in Singapore and Hong Kong for data centers and service infrastructure over the next five years,” Hioki said.

On top of its new data centers, KVH has extended its cloud services platform for Infrastructure-as-a-Service using facilities fun by Colt Technology Services.

Its rollout includes ten sites to support its Asian and European expansion.

“These new service offerings will enable customers to remotely deploy and manage computing, storage, and network resources located in dedicated Colt and KVH data center facilities in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Netherlands, Spain, and Switzerland, from any location, with any device,” KVH said.

It said the service supports public, private and hybrid cloud solutions, and allows business applications to be placed closer to end users.

“Irrespective of location, customers will have a single SLA across all services with consistent pricing in a single currency,” KVH said, adding that the services will be available across three sits from June 1 this year and the rest of the sites by the end of 2013.
