Managed hosting and data center provider Netcetera has taken drastic action to find new homes for its data and moved to the Isle of Man. It said it was forced to swim against the tide of conventional hosting by the severe shortage of London server space.

In data movement terms, more traffic will follow them out of London, as it's almost impossible to find a parking in London, argued Felicitas Gawenat, Netcetera marketing manager. "Companies are restricted from expansion by both space and power shortages in their current data centers. On the Isle of Man we are in a great position to offer co-location at an all-in-one price for any business."

Banking and financial services companies are showing particular interest, he said, as their London bases face more restrictions on space than ever, thanks to Olympic planning restrictions. Meanwhile power usage in London could be limited.

The new zone will have 150 racks available for co-location. Netcetera has 10 Megawatts of power available and can offer high density rack hosting up to 45kW per rack.

It claimed that its new all-in-one pricing for rack space, power and bandwidth can compete with any offering in the UK. The target markets are companies looking to move their servers out of the office and co-locate for the first time and companies that are outgrowing their current co-location space.

Netcetera claimed the Isle of Man is perfect for co-location and disaster recovery services as power is supplied from three of the most modern power stations in the UK. Natural security is provided by the sea and resilient high capacity fibre optic cables connect to both Manchester and London.

Recently the Isle of Man's Gaming Commission recognised The Dataport's resilience, reliability and security by awarding Netcetera with approved disaster recovery center status.

The Isle of Man is an hour by plane from any UK airport - weather permitting - and clients will have 24 hour access, 365 days a year, as well as remote access to virtual server management services.
