International Data Center Group (IDC-G) has partnered with Telconet to use the latter company's data centers in Ecuador to provide services to the local market.

IDC-G is a global data center services provider that specializes in second-tier international markets, with data centers in countries like Croatia, Hungary Iceland, India, Indonesia, Poland, Romania and Ukraine, among others.

Guy Willner, executive chairman of IDC-G, said emerging markets had a rapidly growing data center industry. "We have been seeing significant demand from our clients in South America and, in a region where demand clearly exceeds supply."

Telconet's two data centers IDC-G will be using are in Quito and Guayaquil. Together, they offer 20,450 sq ft of technical floor, according to IDC-G.

The two facilities are linked by Telconet's fiber-optic network, which allows for disaster-recovery and backup between the two sites.

Francisco Villacreses, commercial director at Telconet, said the company had thus far been focused on providing network infrastructure serviecs via its dark-fiber network inside Ecuador. Now, it is expanding its scope by adding data center services through the partnership with IDC-G.

"We hope to strengthen our long-term relationship with IDC-G as we share the vision of contributing to the positive development of the growing market for modern data centers in Latin America," Villacreses said.
