Expedient has unveiled a new colocation cage design in an effort to save wasted data center space that could instead be used for additional cabinets.

The cloud and colocation provider’s SlimeLine Cage aims to cut down on the footprint of cages across its facilities, resulting in reduced costs.

“The flexibility of SlimLine Cage configurations enables our clients to achieve up to a 40 percent savings over the cost of a standard colocation cage because of the efficient use of space,” Ken Hill, chief technology officer of Expedient, said.

The company claims that the cage can fit the exact profile of the cabinets inside, while still allowing for mobility. Expedient will create tailored cages for clients to eliminate the additional monthly expenses that come with an excessively large cage footprint.

The patent-pending design will be used across Expedient’s 11 data centers in Baltimore, MD; Boston, MA; Cleveland, OH; Columbus, OH; Indianapolis, IN; Memphis, TN; and Pittsburgh, PA.
