Digiplex has won planning consent for a data center with 6,000 sq m technical space in Upplands Vasby, Stockholm, Sweden on the site of an old factory.

Once completed it will be Digiplex’s sixth data center.

Construction is to begin immediately and is expected to complete in Autumn.

The re-furbished site will come with over 20MW of green power, generated from hydro and wind turbines.

Data center facilities will be offered for both retail and wholesale purposes.

The site will use the Hypoxic Air Fire prevention system, offer stringent security and promises 100% concurrent maintainability with no down time.

Temperature management will be provided by Digiplex’s Air2Air cooling system.

It will offer one-meter deep floor spaces and four-meter ceiling heights.

The facility is being built to meet rising demand for data storage from customers that want to demonstrate their green credentials, according to DigiPlex commercial director Greg McCulloch.

“Demand for data storage is high and we are working to meet this and to be environmentally sustainable,” McCulloch said.

“The Stockholm center provides the right environment for the equipment and great efficiency.”

The building approval was gained in two weeks from the day of submission.

A spokesman for local authority Upplands Vasby Kommun said this reflects its enthusiasm to attract data center business.

“Väsby Town is determined to improve its services to business. We hope and believe this contributed to the DigiPlex investment in Väsby,” Björn Eklundh, CEO for the municipality, said.
