Cloudera, provider of enterprise software built around Apache Hadoop, has teamed up with T-Systems, a Deutsche Telekom subsidiary, to provide cloud-based data-analytics solutions.

The companies will develop the “Analytics-as-a-Service” solutions together. It will combine Cloudera's Impala RTQ real-time analytics in the data-management-infrastructure layer and T-Systems' cloud-computing infrastructure.

The deal gives Cloudera access to T-Systems' customer base, while T-Systems gets the technological capability to become a player in the growing data-analytics market. Hadoop is the most popular open-source framework for running analytics applications in parallel, distributed across massive compute clusters.

Cloudera is one of the most popular vendors of Hadoop-based software. Among its top executives is Doug Cutting, creator of Hadoop, who works as the company's chief architect.

Its CEO and founder, Mike Olson, served as VP of embedded technologies at Oracle before starting his own business.

Cloudera VP of business and corporate development Tim Stevens said the deal was an endorsement for Cloudera's technology. “Leaders choose leaders to partner with and this partnership is further validation that Cloudera is the big data solutions leader that enterprises trust,” he said.

“T-Systems' unique cloud-based application of our Platform for Big Data will enable unparalleled scalability for data management and analytics and offer a great way for enterprises to more easily leverage the power of Hadoop.”

T-Systems' portfolio includes a variety of IT services, including application, infrastructure and support services. The company's 2012 revenue was €10bn.
