Amazon Web Services plans to build a 20,739 square meter (223,000 sq ft) data center in Dublin, Ireland at a cost of up to €200 million ($212m), with another seven facilities under consideration.

The Mulhuddart data center located on a 26-hectare plot of land was revealed in Fingal County Council planning permission documents first spotted by the Irish Independent.

Project G

Should the plans receive approval, construction on ‘Project G’ will begin this year and take approximately 18 months to complete. At its peak, about 400 construction workers are expected to be on the site.

One document states: “Construction of a data storage facility building with an overall height of c. 13 metres, containing data halls, associated electrical and AHU Plant Rooms, a loading bay, maintenance and storage space, office administration areas, screened plant and solar panels at roof level, all within a building with a total gross floor area of 20,739 sqm.”

A temporary 110kv substation will be built at first, followed by a permanent 220kv Gas Insulated Switchgear substation.

A planning document related to drainage and water supply reveals the water usage of the facility, adding that 60 percent is lost to evaporation during cooling:

After the €200m main data center is built, AWS will have space for seven more, slightly smaller, facilities for an additional €700m ($724m).

If Project G gets the necessary permissions to go ahead, it will join several other Amazon data centers in Ireland. Earlier this year the cloud company purchased land in Tallaght, Dublin to build its fourth facility there, and is currently building another data center on the site of a former biscuit factory.
