TierPoint has opened a new facility in its campus in Oklahoma City, which is being described as the largest commercial data center in Oklahoma.

The new 69,000 sq ft (6,400 sq m) center has some 34,000 sq ft (3,200 sq m) of raised floor space, along with support space and office space, according to The Oklahoman.  There is also more than 14,000 square feet of support space and 21,000 square feet of office space.

Real estate

“It’s like high-tech real estate,” general manager Todd Currie told the Oklahoman. “That’s space where clients put their servers and we provide them the physical security, power, cooling and we do it 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”

TierPoint began the project in August 2014, expanding a site which it acquired when it bought Perimeter Technology Center in 2011. The new facility will be a Tier III carrier-class, carrier-neutral facility and will include N+1 redundant power and accommodate up to 30kW per rack. The building is built to resist Oklahoma’s winds, withstanding speeds up to 165mph, and it also has a reinforced foundation to shrug off earthquakes.

There are two power substations, and four diesel backup generators.

TierPoint has continued to acquire: in 2015 it bought Windstream’s data center business for $575 million, and so far in 2016, it has bought Cosentry, adding nine data centers to its holdings, and bought AlteredScale in Chicago.
