Interoute has opened the doors to its first Spanish international distributed data center in Madrid, Spain.

The operator said the facility is built into its pan-European network adding a new physical location to its unified ICT platform.

The platform is said to offer customers to build or buy as-a-service data center architectures whether they are physical, virtual or hybrid and claim they can be distributed across countries and regions at “the speed of light”.

The facility has 13 independent data center rooms’ over 4,500m² and offers up to 32kw per rack.

The operator said a key differentiator is in the modular and decentralised UPS and cooling distribution with each of the 13 rooms functioning as a data center within a data center.

The new facility is integrated to the company’s other European data centers and customers can have the choice to place their data in the Madrid facility as well as any other Interoute locations suited to their business needs.

Interoute’s CEO Gareth Williams said 2014 will be a watershed year for ICT.

“The networked cloud is here to stay and in Europe we plan to remain the largest. By investing in a new data centre in Madrid, we are demonstrating our commitment to that goal,” Williams said.
