Canada’s Cogeco Cable is to open a new 100,000 square foot Tier 3 data center in Montreal in April. It will be run by its subsidiary Cogeco Data Services, which operates five data centers in the Toronto metro region and one in Montreal.

The Kirkland data center, on the island of Montreal, will connect to the 1,500 kilometres of fibre optic cable Cogeco Data Services already owns and operates on the island.

The addition of this new facility to Cogeco’s estate will bring the company’s total data centre capacity locally to over 200,000 square feet. In 2012 Cogeco Cable spent CA $100million on a 100,000 square foot facility in Montreal. The new data center will be marketed to businesses in Montreal and the surrounding area wanting access to ‘advanced colocation’, managed IT and cloud services.

The owners claim its abundant and reliable power and a cool climate could create a low carbon footprint and free cooling could be used in order to achieve an impressive power use effectives (PUE) rating.

“We are very excited to add another advanced facility to our growing data center footprint,” said Tony Ciciretto, who is CEO of both Cogeco Data Services and Peer 1 Hosting. “The new center is specifically designed to meet an increasing demand in the Montreal region for reliable and secure ICT solutions.”

This new facility and Conego’s wholly-owned network and cloud infrastructure highlight its commitment to continued growth in the Quebec market, he said.
