Data center developer Server Farm Realty (SFR) has partnered with DSA Encore to build a rack-ready data center for Windstream Hosted Solutions, a managed hosting services provider, in Charlotte, North Carolina. DSA is a data center solutions firm.

The 60,850 sq ft, 10 MW facility is scheduled to open in late 2013. It will be Windstream's fourth Charlotte facility and seventh in the state.

The building will house multiple 10,000 sq ft data center suites Windstream will lease from SFR. The provider will offer its cloud computing, dedicated hardware, managed services and disaster recovery services out of the facility.

Chris Nicolini, senior VP of data center operations at Windstream, said demand for the company's services continued to increase every eyear. “This newest data center represents our commitment to providing customers with the highest level of services and reliability in order to meet the changing needs of their businesses,” he said.

This is yet another project that demonstrates Windstream's bold expansion ambitions in what are called second-tier data center markets around the US. Just in May, a developer called Compass Datacenters finished construction of another data center for the provider in Durham, North Carolina.

Prior to that, in April, Compass announced completion of a data center for Windstream in the Nashville, Tennessee, market. In November 2012, the provider launched a 45,000 sq ft facility in McLean, Virginia, and in April of that year, it opened a 30,000 sq ft data center in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Windstream has been on an aggressive expansion trajectory since 2010. That year, it bought a five-data-center portfolio of Hosted Solutions from Abry Partners for $310m, and in 2011, shelled out $2.3bn for a large data center and connectivity services provider called Paetec.
