Telecommunications service provider Vocus said it will launch data centers in Auckland, New Zealand and Melbourne, Australia in coming months – increasing its footprint in Asia Pacific to 3,263 sq m at a cost of between AU$10m and $15m.

According to the Financial Review, it plans to take over a former facility occupied by the Australian Securities Exchange in Melbourne’s CBD to boost its colocation space.

The building was left vacant after the Exchange opened its new Gore hill facility.

In New Zealand, in plans a fit out in a business park where it already has a facility. This deal would be part of an agreement made to purchase telecommunications player Maxnet.

Vocus currently has facilities in Sydney, Perth and Melbourne in Australia and Christchurch and Auckland in New Zealand, and plans to launch its new expansion plans in coming months.

Much of Vocus’ footprint has been built out so far using retrofits.
