US cloud roundup: Cloud investment, new services and a test lab

Venture Capitalist firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers could soon be targeting the cloud computing space, with news agency Bloomberg reporting it is considering setting up a new fund to invest in the space.

It said the fund could invest up to US$100m in cloud services projects running out of remote data centers. It has already invested about US$100m in cloud projects in the last year, including IT automation software solution provider Puppet labs.

Google to release service to rival iCloud

Google is getting ready to release a cloud computing service similar to Dropbox and Apple’s iCloud, which allows content to be retrieved on multiple mobile devices.

The Wall Street Journal said the service will focus on synchronization for Android phones and tablets using the Chrome operating system and users of Google’s applications focussed on the business space, such as Word.

It said the service is expected to be free for users requiring a set amount of data and ready to launch in a number of weeks

CoreSite launches cloud test lab

Santa Clara-based CoreSite Realty Corporation has launched a new enterprise class cloud test lab with Eucalyptus Systems to provides a fully functional hosted infrastructure as a service for companies wanting to validate their cloud application migration strategies.

The Eucalyptus cloud Test Lab is a cloud-ready data center solution includes hosting, hardware and open source cloud software for full elastic cloud management based on Dell infrastructure.
