European data center provider TelecityGroup has retained Silicon Valley-based email security service provider Proofpoint as a customer in its facilities in Frankfurt and Amsterdam. Proofpoint will use the Frankfurt facility as its primary EMEA data center and the Amsterdam location will provide emergency capacity, failover and disaster recovery.

"It's not (Proofpoint's) first expansion into Europe, but first into Germany and Amsterdam," the company's Chief Marketing Officer Peter Galvin said. "There's a huge market opportunity and it's a good area for us to be able to expand into."

Proofpoint provides a range of email security services, using the SaaS (software as a service) model, to enterprise-class customers. The services include protection from spam and viruses, prevention of data loss, email encryption and secure archiving. Services are delivered on demand.

TelecityGroup provides Proofpoint with the ability to monitor its equipment in the two European data centers through CCTV cameras from its headquarters in Sunnyvale, Calif.
