Technology giant IBM has opened yet another facility under its cloud business SoftLayer as part of its US$1.2bn cloud expansion plans announced earlier this year.

IBM has opened SoftLayer facilities in London and Hong Kong within recent months – the Toronto facility will be the fifth data center announced under IBM’s cloud expansion plans.

The tech giant is set to add other facilities across the world with locations including Mexico and Dallas and Washington DC still on the construction path.

The Toronto facility – marking a first for the cloud platform in Canada -will have space to house more than 15,000 physical servers and will have the ability to tap into SoftLayer’s Point of Presence (PoP) in Toronto.

IBM’s London facility opened last month and similar to Toronto 15,000 physical servers and offers the full range of SoftLayer services including bare metal servers, virtual servers, storage and networking.
