RagingWire officially launched its 150,000 sq ft data center in Ashburn, Virginia, its first location outside California. Until now, the company has had two data centers in Sacramento, Twitter being one of the tenants there, according to Reuters.

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, who was present at Wednesday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony, congratulated the company on launching a data center in Virginia’s “technology corridor”.

“We are pleased you are joining Virginia's high tech community and appreciate the investments you are making in the Commonwealth and your efforts to drive business and economic development,” he said.

Other operators with data centers in Ashburn include Equinix, Latisys, NTT America, DuPont Fabros, AT&T and Digital Realty Trust among others. The new facility brings an additional 21MW of data center capacity to the market.

The company’s CEO George Macricostas said the company was going for Fortune 1,000 companies, major Internet businesses and providers of cloud-based services. RagingWire is offering the Ashburn site as a way to extend infrastructure to the US east coast or into Europe.
