British data center operator Node4 has completed acquisition of Reconnix, a small but well-established open source software and services company from Newark.

Node4 will put the new employees to work on its application development and managed cloud offering. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Reconnix brings a very impressive depth of open source expertise which allows us to enhance our cloud offering and continue to ensure our customers benefit from the very best IT infrastructure tailored to their individual needs,“ said Andrew Gilbert, managing director at Node4.

Node4 owns four data centers - in Derby, Leeds, and Northampton - and leases server space in Slough. It operates a nationwide network of DWDM fiber with Points-of-Presence in Manchester and London, and offers managed hosting, colocation, connectivity, SIP trunking and hosted telephony services. It also runs its own public cloud platform, the N4Coloud.

Reconnix (formerly ForLinux) was founded in 2001 by Steve Nice and his wife Pat with the aim of promoting open source for business. Steve held the CTO position and has just been appointed the CEO in January 2015. Today, Reconnix provides managed services for dedicated and cloud infrastructures, professional services for open source projects, open source application support and application development.

Under the terms of the deal, Reconnix team will continue to work from their Newark office, while Nice will take up a senior management role as head of Node4’s Open Source business. The company will continue providing services to its current customers, but they will also get access to Node4’s much broader portfolio.

“There is a clear synergy in the aims and ambitions of both companies and I believe the acquisition will bring further opportunities for both our employees and our customers,” said Nice.
