Data center company Cologix has acquired colocation and disaster recovery provider Colo5 with more than 225,000 sq ft across two enterprise-grade, hurricane-resistant facilities in Jacksonville and Lakeland, Florida.

This is Cologix’s ninth acquisition adding to its growing carrier-neutral North American data center footprint.

Cologix now has a total data center and disaster recovery footprint of 125,000 sq ft in Jacksonville alone which the company said solidifies its position in the Jacksonville area.

In addition, Cologix said it can now offer 100,000 sq ft of data center and disaster recovery space in Lakeland, which is centrally located between Tampa and Orlando at an elevation of 197 ft above sea level.

Cologix said Lakeland's elevation and proximity to major market centers make it a natural location for primary or secondary IT sites for enterprises in Tampa, Orlando, and Miami,  Cologix plans to expand in Florida within 18 months.

Colo5 CEO Doug Recker said customers from both companies will gain benefits from the acquisition.
