New England based telecoms and data center firm Markley Group has received $240 million to expand its business.

Markley will use the money to expand its flagship data center at One Summer Street in downtown Boston, and develop its Markley Cloud on demand computing and storage service, as well as developing other sites.

Long-established center

The operator says its 900,000 sq ft (84,000 sq m) facility is one of the largest and longest-operating colocation data centers in New England, and describes it as the only ‘carrier hotel’ in the region due to its volume and variety of connectivity options, which includes housing the Boston Internet Exchange (BIX) IP peering network.

“This new and robust financing package allows us to accelerate our growth and explore new projects in new markets,” commented Jeffrey D. Markley, CEO of the group. The data center provider said it plans to use the line of financing to expand its cloud computing services and “expedite the development of new sites” outside of its New England base.

In addition to operating One Summer Street, the Markley Group also provides cloud-based infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) via its Markley Cloud. The cloud service provides on-demand computing and storage resources using VMware’s virtualization software.
