Colocation and peering service provider CoreSite announced on Tuesday a plan to expand its data center in Reston, Va. The expansion will include a 6 MW increase in power delivered to the facility. The company is planning to bring the new phase online by December, according to a CoreSite statement, and – after the expansion is complete – a total of 12 MW will be available at the facility.
Through CoreSite’s Any 2 Northeast exchange, tenants of the Reston facility have access to more than 100 networks in New York and Washington, D.C., markets.
The new expansion phase of the Reston facility will include installation of water-side economization solutions, variable-speed fans, more efficient UPS units and zoned lighting. CoreSite is aiming for the data center to achieve a PUE that is below 1.5.
CoreSite – formerly CRG West – is wholly owned by the Carlyle Group, one of the largest private equity firms in the world. According to the statement, the Denver, Colo.-based company offers more than 2 million square feet of wholesale data center space and colocation services nationally.
