US healthcare provider deploys Juniper gear at new data center

Customer aims to consolidate and automate business processes
(2/25/2010)

Network equipment vendor Juniper announced on Thursday that a large US healthcare organization chose its products in deploying network infrastructure in its new data center in Phoenix, Ariz.

According to a Juniper spokesman, John C. Lincoln Health Network is refreshing its IT assets to accommodate a growing number of users and amount of information processed. The refresh includes consolidation and automation of business processes of the organization, which currently has more than 1,100 physicians and more than 3,500 other staff in Phoenix.

“Healthcare providers are thinking about their data centers in a new and innovative ways as escalating information processing and privacy requirements continue to put pressure on budgets while caregivers and patients simultaneously expect an improved user experience,” Juniper VP of Enterprise Marketing Mike Banic said in a statement.

Juniper solutions the medical organization will deploy in its new facility include EX Series Ethernet switches, IDP series intrusion detection and prevention appliances, SA series SSL VPN appliances, SRX series services gateways and SSG series secure services gateways.

According to the latest market data by IT industry analyst group Dell’Oro, the Ethernet switch market will resume growth in 2010 and continue growing through 2014. Growth will be mainly driven by large data center deployments by companies undertaking virtualization projects and consolidating into fewer but larger data centers.

One of the recent most notable customer wins for Juniper was NYSE Euronext, the operator of two large stock markets in the US and Europe, which chose to deploy the company’s EX series Ethernet switches and MX series Ethernet services routers, as well as the company’s Junos network operating system, in its two new data centers expected to come online later this year.
