New data center is Liquid Web's third in the region
Hosting company Liquid Web launched a new data center and headquarters in Lansing, Mich., earlier this week, saying the facility will support the company's expansion into the cloud computing business.
Liquid Web expects to launch its cloud hosting offering – first product the company developed in-house – in the coming weeks, according to a statement. The company says the product (currently in the private beta testing stage) will compete with “some of the largest computer, software and Internet companies in the world.”
“Cloud hosting is a cost-effective, secure server solution for literally thousands of companies and organizations small to large that need to deploy a new server or need to increase the capacity of their current servers,” Liquid Web owner and founder Matthew Hill said in the statement.
The company said it invested about $80 million in the new 90,000-square-foot facility that will employ about 600 people. The building houses 50,000 square feet of data center floor and the rest is reserved for office space.
The facility's power capacity at full load is 24 MW.
Besides the new data center, Liquid Web has about 10,000 servers in two Lansing-area facilities. The new facility brings the company's capacity to being able to host up to 35,000 servers total. Liquid Web says it is the largest Web hosting company in the State of Michigan.
