US Air Force places largest ever order for over $560m worth of UPS

Computer Sites Inc, Emerson Network Power and Siemens Industry lined up for five year data center and other critical power deal
(2/23/2010)

The US Air Force signed a five year deal with a partnership comprising three of the biggest critical facility power suppliers – Computer Sites Inc, Emerson Network Power and Siemens Industries Inc - for the 'Power Conditioning Continuation Interfacing Equipment (PCCIE)' contract for the service.

It is the largest Air Force contract for uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems and a win that could be worth as much as $568.5 million over the course of the contract.

Computer Sites Inc had been the sole contractor on previous deals with the Air Force over a 21 year period and as the prime contractor on this contract, it will be responsible for project design, engineering, installation and construction. Emerson Network Power will provide Liebert UPS systems, Liebert power distribution units and other Liebert products and engineering services under terms of the five-year, multiple-award contract. The contract has two, one-year option periods.

“This contract is a nice addition to our growing government business and a source of pride for our organization,” said Chuck Spears, president, of Emerson Network Power’s Liebert products business in North America.

“These Liebert UPS systems will provide state-of-the-art power protection for critical systems supporting U.S. Air Force missions around the world.”

PCCIE is the Air Force program office responsible for commissioning UPS replacements and new deployments. The contract calls for Emerson Network Power to provide UPS systems and support on an as-needed basis to the Air Force and is open to the Department of Defense and other government-affiliated agencies.

The first order under the contract calls for two Liebert Npower UPS systems for Elmendorf AFB in Alaska.
