Microsoft has partnered up with storage solutions vendor NetApp to jointly provide virtualized infrastructure solutions that include Microsoft’s server operating system and virtualization product and NetApp storage systems. The companies will also provide storage and data management solutions for several other Microsoft Server products, as well as private cloud computing and hosted service solutions.
“Through the deeper integration of server, virtualisation, management and storage technologies, Microsoft and NetApp customers can expect data center solutions that help them reduce costs, increase performance and reach new levels of efficiency,” Microsoft VP of Infrastructure Server Marketing Bob Kelly said in a statement.
The virtualized infrastructure solutions will consist of Windows Server 2008 R2, Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2, Microsoft System Center and NetApp storage products. The partners will deliver storage and data management solutions for Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server, and Microsoft SQL Server.
The two companies have already been collaborating in delivering data center efficiency solutions for data centers (Microsoft recognized NetApp as its storage solutions partner of the year 2009) and the new three-year agreement furthers technical integration between the partners’ products. The companies will also extend sharing of joint sales and marketing.
NetApp also has been using a number of Windows Server platform technologies for improved storage management, back-up, recovery and remote replication in Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V environments.
