Microsoft has confirmed earlier press reports that Ireland is a €˜preferred location for the development of a data center,' with the news the company applied for planning permission for its US$500 million facility at Grange Castle.
Although a final decision on the investment has not been made, seeking planning application now should help accelerate the build process once the site receives affirmation. A decision on the project is expected in early autumn.
If successful, the project will include a 51,155 square meter, two-storey building including office space.
Microsoft already has four centers in the Irish capital, which includes its European operations center and a product development center.
