Property developer Lasercharm has filed a planning application with East Cambridgeshire District Council (ECDC) for a £100 million data center at the Elean Business Park in Sutton, near Ely.
Quoted in local media, Alex Arthur of Lasercharm believes the Ely area is a good place to build a business. He said: "Ely is an ideal location for the data center with its highly skilled population and very attractive environment. Sutton is one of the country's main hubs for fibre optics, making it ideal for a data center, adding that: "We are delighted that, with the assistance of modern technology, we have been able to reduce the size of the data center so significantly."
Planning permission was granted on the site in August 2003 to previous owners for a 2.2 million square feet data center.
If planning permission is granted work could start on the new center in the Spring.
